HSE University Life

Staff members from the HSE Faculty of Social Sciences have made over 50 trips to international conferences in the past year. Alexander Kalgin, Lecturer at the School of Public Administration, shared his impressions about the International Symposium on Development and Governance in BRICS countries in Shanghai, and a visit to Guangdong University of Foreign Studies in Guangzhou to discuss a joint research project and to meet with representatives of the university administration responsible for international education cooperation.

On September 26th, 2016,  the 2nd International Student Conference ‘Russia and Egypt: Joint Future’ was held at HSE. The event was organized by the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs with the support of the Egyptian Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs and the Egyptian Youth National Organization. Students and doctoral students from Cairo University and several Russian universities took part in the event.

During the conference, the Russian chapter of the System Dynamics Society held a meeting and unveiled an e-poster outlining its major activities, research events, and education projects. The poster was made by Natalya Lychkina, Associate Professor at the Department of Information Systems and Technologies in Logistics and Head of the Russian chapter of the System Dynamics Society.

This summer, Milena Rubleva, a fourth-year student of Journalism at HSE, presented a visualization of her study at the Connected Life 2016: Collective Action and the Internet Conference. She told the HSE News Service about the conference that was hosted by PhD students at the Oxford Internet Institute, which is part of the University of Oxford.

A meeting as part of the cultural exchange between HSE’s Humanities Faculty, the RAS Institute of Philosophy and the Amalfi Center of History and Culture took place on September 2-3.

In July, an international conference ‘Active Communities, Social-Economy Challenges and Local Knowledge’ and a summer school on ‘Sustaining Mutuality in Times of Crisis: Building Knowledge Alliances in Communities’ were held on Paros, Greece. Graduates of the master’s programme ‘Sociology of Public Sphere and Social Communications’ led by Nikita Pokrovsky, Professor at the School of Sociology, took part in these events.

On July 14-17 the annual international conference and festival Popsophia was held in Pesaro, Italy.  This time the event was dedicated to the problems of war and violence in contemporary philosophy and took place in the fortress built by Costanzo Sforza.

HSE Philosophy School Professor Tatiana Sidorina gave a presentation at the International Association of Sociologists’ third forum ‘The Futures We Want: Global Sociology and the Struggles for a Better World’ in Vienna.

Irina Gluschenko, Associate Professor at the School of Cultural Studies, took part in the conference ‘Food and Culture. History, Society, Communication’ where she presented her report ‘Modernizzazione in cucina. L'esperienza Sovietica’ (Modernising Cuisine: The Soviet Experience).

Anna Khasyanova, a 2014 graduate of the master’s programme in Finance (specialization in Financial Markets and Banking) passed the selection process and took part in the 20^th International Conference ‘Financial Reporting and Business Communication’.

The results of the joint call for proposals in basic scientific research and exploratory scientific research, conducted by international research teams, have been announced. The call was launched by the Russian Science Foundation (RSF) and Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).

On June 9-13, the international conference ‘Computer Science Symposium in Russia 2016’ was held in St. Petersburg as part of the Special Semester on Computational and Proof Complexity.
