Ideal Form: I Shape My World

From March 8th to April 7th, 2019 HSE ART GALLERY is hosting a large-scale exhibition on the topic of Women Who Change the World. This joint project by HSE ART GALLERY and LEVI`S® has given HSE Art and Design School students the opportunity to realize their ideas on this important theme.

Theme of the Exhibition

The exhibition is about the willingness to investigate the world via art, the search for harmony and balance between the internal and the external, lack and presence, movement and stillness. The search for an ideal form as declared in the exhibition name is the process of searching for an answer to many vital questions: what is the ideal shape inside us and around us, the form of our interaction with the others and self, the bodily and the spiritual?

This exhibition, which opened on International Women’s Day, is a total installation, an integral statement. The issues embodied in works by the young artists are wide-ranging: what are the roles of women in society and culture? How does art affect our life? How can social views change as a result of certain actions and solutions? What human qualities help change reality, even if it means a very personal transformation and low-key discoveries? The process of searching for an answer defines the topic better than any dogmatic conclusion. The results of such study are represented by artworks that suggest the audience become involved in the process of understanding not only the feminist discourse, but human values in general.

The project partner, LEVI`S®, has always been in the cultural spotlight, inspiring people to express their individuality. I Shape My World, a global campaign, aims to unite women from all over the world, women of different races, religions, ages and demographics. LEVI`S® tells the stories of women who act to change the world for the better. Risk, break the stereotypes, break the rules – this is the only way to make the world be as you want it to be.

Artworks

22 students of HSE Art and Design School have participated in the project. Their artworks are installations, performance documentations, original zines, videos, sound art, interactive objects and games. All the artworks have been created specifically for the exhibition, which is open until April 7th at the HSE ART Gallery.
