HSE University Life

An HSE student team majoring in software engineering and business informatics won in a category of the Hackathon for developers of mobile applications and web-services in Perm. The students developed an application for diagnosing a patient’s condition based on symptoms.

On December 3, 2014, a delegation consisting of some of the largest Chinese universities from the BRICS Universities League visited HSE St. Petersburg. The group included the Vice President of Zhejiang Normal University, the Deputy Dean of Tsinghua University's Institute of International Relations, and leadership from Fudan University's Centre for BRICS Studies.

The visit by our Chinese partners is an organic part of the agreement between our universities to work together in academic and research fields. This year a group of Chinese students attended an HSE Nizhny Novgorod summer school and in September our students returned from Sichuan province where they were studying Chinese law-enforcement practices.

The Vice-Consul of France in Russia, Jean-Pierre Guillerme, was appointed to his position two months ago. This was Jean-Pierre Guillerme’s first time visiting Nizhny Novgorod with his new title. The main purpose of the visit to HSE’s Nizhny Novgorod campus was to meet with Gennady Ryabov, who is the Honorary Consul of the French Republic in Nizhny Novgorod and Advisor to the Director of HSE Nizhny Novgorod.

On December 1, HSE celebrated another anniversary and, according to tradition, awarded the best teachers, researchers, administrative staff, and students with the Golden HSE prize.

On November 20-23, the National Communication Association (NCA) organized its 100^th conference in Chicago. Sergey Zverev, Oleg Kashirskikh, and Nelli Bachurina, all instructors in HSE’s School of Integrated Communications, presented papers at the conference and took part in a panel discussion as well.

In early October, members of the Moscow HSE's Student Council met with the University's Rector Yaroslav Kuzminov.

Dr. Martin Wenke, Professor of Economics, Ecology and Ethics at Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences, Germany, gave a lecture for Nizhny Novgorod students on the current situation in Europe as a whole, and Germany in particular.

HSE Perm hosted a charity Bake Sale, organized by the HSE Perm discussion club, to collect funds for the city's animal homes.

HSE Perm has hosted the second International Conference on Applied Research. The conference drew Russian and international experts. Participants discussed theoretical models of economic processes, public-private partnership, intellectual capital, market development etc.

HSE Nizhny Novgorod has become something of a hub linking businesspeople from France and representatives of leading economic sectors in the region. Students with the French Presidential Programme had a chance to meet HSE graduates who now lead or are specialists in companies in Nizhny Novgorod.

Students on the MA Experience Economy: Hospitality and Tourism Management course at HSE’s Moscow campus, who graduated from the Management Faculty at HSE Perm have been praised by international experts for their contribution to major international conferences.
