I was fortunate enough to arrive at HSE in 1995, when I was one of 120 economics and business instructors from various Russian regions who participated in the TASIS International Project for school and university teachers. It was there, while in HSE classrooms, lectures, and during informal talks with professors, that I realized that the main mission of any major university is to generate knowledge, provide quality education, and serve society.
Obviously, HSE’s founders dreamt much about the institution’s mission, foreseeing a university that relies on strong, motivated students, where professors are also researchers and coaches, and where administrators can foster conditions for the development of everyone who works and studies at HSE.
HSE’s mission has extended far beyond Moscow. It is now present in Nizhny Novgorod, St. Petersburg and Perm…
Today, we are a well-represented university with a unified system of standards and rules, with equal opportunities for all students and staff.
Independent of their location, all members of the HSE family have access to student and academic mobility, double degree programmes with world’s leading universities, and work with research institutes, centres and international laboratories, as well as Russia’s richest e-resources and the University’s unique collection of academic literature.
I remember it vividly when, in September 1998, we met our first students, who had great trust in us and were enamored with the idea of something totally new, just like we were. They eagerly wanted to become part of the Higher School of Economics – a university with no equal in Russia! Year after year, such prospective students have come to us. They are decisive, motivated, and ambitious. They are the best! We, in turn, try to do our best to give them as much as we can. We have a great team of remarkable teachers, who are creative, enthusiastic and respectful to HSE’s students.
Today, the HSE campus in Perm is a centre of discussion and expert platform for specialists from many various fields, such as education, health care, industry, public and municipal administration, finance and banking, small and medium-sized business, etc. My colleagues and I are always happy to see more and more of our graduates sharing their stories of success at our events.
We’ve already achieved much and have no plans of stopping or giving up! For someone who has a goal, motivation and confidence, everything is possible! HSE means a great future, which is entirely possible as long as we pursue our dreams!
