Defense of Term Papers by First-Year Master’s Students
On June 5, 2026, first-year Master’s students in the "Russian as a Foreign Language" program defended their term papers. Throughout the academic year, the students worked on their research projects. For their final defense, they presented their findings through academic posters—a format that is concise, highly visual, and closely mirrors the environment of professional scientific conferences.
The research topics proved to be highly diverse. The Master's students investigated speech errors made by foreign learners of Russian, the impact of cross-linguistic interference, the acquisition of RFL grammar and vocabulary, construction grammar, and the distinct features of childhood bilingualism.
Students choose their research topics based on their academic interests, favorite courses, or the specific field of expertise of the thesis advisor they wish to work with.
- The wide range of research topics included: Aspectual choices and verbs of motion acquisition in RFL;
- Speech errors made by native speakers of various languages when learning Russian;
- Family language policy in families with deaf children;
- Grammaticalization of verbs in Russian and Chinese;
- The history and semantics of Russian prepositions;
- Lexical typology and linguistic diversity among the peoples of Russia.
