Research seminar at CHEMP (23 January)

Research seminars at CHEMP are back! On 23 January 2019 we started off the new year with several presentations related to a major research project by CHEMP - study of cardiovascular diseases in Russia.

Anastasia Meylakhs, junior research fellow at CHEMP, presented results of her qualitative study (conducted in association with Almazov National Medical Research Centre and The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine). The presentation introduced the audience to the labour market outcomes’ fluctuations of individuals that experienced myocardial infractions in their lives.

The topic of myocardial infractions was expanded by Daria Datsyuk and Ekaterina Morozova (Bachelor's students in Economics at NRU HSE SPb), as they presented preliminary findings of their quantitative study. They analysed data from the RLMS-HSE survey in order to examine how such a severe health shock as the myocardial infraction affected people’s participation on the labour market.

In addition to the presentations above, Lyubov Chigirinskaya and Yulia Volkova introduced us to estimation methods of economic burdens and treatment expenses caused by chronic cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.
