What sets information security apart as a research focus? What projects is HSE MIEM’s Department of Cyber-Physical Systems Information Security currently carrying out? How does research informs teaching? Fedor Ivanov, Associate Professor and Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Cyber-Physical Systems Information Security, has answered these and other questions for the HSE LooK.

Evgeny Kucheryavy,Professor at the School of Electronic Engineering, has told the HSE LooK about MIEM wireless network projects he and his department are involved in, as well as his work with MIEM students.

The Centre for Language and Brain in Nizhny Novgorod started operations in September 2020. Today, it is comprised of a team of linguists - teachers and students - who are researching the relations between speech and parts of the brain. The Director of the Centre, Natalya E. Gronskaya, spoke to the HSE Look about how the neuro-linguistic laboratory appeared in Nizhny Novgorod, as well as current tasks and prospects the Centre can offer the students and the region.

HSE University postdocs share their thoughts on transitioning from PhD studies, as well as individual and collaborative projects they are currently engaged in. The participants include Adam Gemar and Daria Khlevnyuk (PhDs in Sociology), Nikita Lychakov (PhD in Finance), and Amanda Zadorian (PhD in Politics). We also talked to Ekaterina Paustyan, a postdoc at the University of Bremen and an excellent example of the connecting power of HSE University’s research centres.

Dr Anatoly Kharkhurin joined HSE University in 2019 as an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences. He received his PhD in Experimental Psychology from the City University of New York and taught in the United States and the United Arab Emirates. This academic year he is teaching Psychology of Thinking and Reasoning and Psycholinguistics. Dr Kharkhurin shared with The HSE Look his perspective on the prospects for the digital transformation of social communication.

Sabyasachi Tripathi, postdoctoral fellow at the Laboratory for Science and Technology Studies, Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge, talks about researching urbanization and innovation in Russia in an interview to the HSE Look.

Bernardo Pincheira is a Research Fellow at the International Research Laboratory for Institutional Analysis of Economic Reforms, Center for Institutional Studies. Having graduated from the University of Nottingham with a PhD in Economics, Dr. Pincheira shared his interest in Economics of Education and peer effects in the classroom.
