Springer, one of the world's leading publishers of scientific literature, has launched a new book series, entitled ‘Societies and political orders in transition’. The series has been initiated by the HSE Faculty of Social Sciences, and three HSE representatives are members of the series International Advisory Board, with the other four members coming from universities in Germany, UK and the USA.

ISSEK staff members Gulnara Abdrakhmanova, Leonid Gokhberg, and Alexander Sokolov have written a chapter – ‘Indicators of Information and Communication Technology’ – for a 10-volume set of the Encyclopedia of Information Science and Technology, edited by Mehdi Khosrow-Pour (Information Resources Management Association, USA). This publication came out in July 2017.
The article “Politics of Open Data in Russia: Regional and Municipal Perspectives”, co-authored by our colleague from the Department of Political Science Yury Kabanov, was published in the « E-Democracy for Smart Cities» chapter of the Springer Journal this May.
Since 2012, the HSE Institute of Education has participated in a large-scale international research project, eduLIFE, which aims to give deeper and more conclusive insights into inequality by tracking education life-courses in modern societies.
IOE Experts among Authors of Encyclopedia of International Higher Education Systems and Institutions
IOE experts Isak Froumin and Dmitry Semyonov have recently contributed an entry on the development of Russian university traditions to Encyclopedia of International Higher Education Systems and Institutions, edited by Jung Cheol Shin and Pedro Teixeira.
Data on researchers’ affiliations in publications indexed in international citation databases (Web of Science or Scopus) reflects their collaborations with research organisations and individuals in other countries. According to findings by the HSE Institute of Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge (ISSEK), the rate of Russian researchers' involvement in international cooperation has been growing from year to year.
A chapter entitled ‘Tourism Companies Values Profiles: The Case of Russian Tour Operator’ on human resources management in tourism by lecturers of HSE School of Business and Public Administration was included in the book ‘Opportunities and Challenges for Tourism and Hospitality in the BRIC Nations’, published by IGI Global Publishing in early 2017.
The book ‘Verba sonandi: Représentation linguistique des cris d'animaux’ edited by Ekaterina Rakhilina, Head of HSE School of Linguistics, has been published by the Publications de l'Université de Provence.
The article ‘Regime Type and Political Destabilization in a Cross-National Perspective: A Re-Analysis’ by Andrey Korotayev, Professor at HSE School of Political Science, co-authored by Julia Zinkina (HSE), Elena Slinko (Rossiya Segodnya) and Stanislav Bilyuga (MSU) was published in the journal ‘Cross-Cultural Research’.
The new issue of Foresight and STI Governance (2016, vol. 10, No. 4) presents the results of Russian-based studies to assess import substitution prospects, discuss the current state of the knowledge-intensive business services sector, and looks at the impact of fixed-term employment contracts on companies’ innovation activities. Furthermore, international experts share their methodological recommendations on boosting the effectiveness of European innovation policy, and designing technology development strategies.
