On July 23-28, 2016, the 24th IPSA World Congress of Political Science ‘Politics in a World of Inequality’ was held in Poznan, Poland. The event was organized by the Polish Association of Political Science and the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism of Adam Mickiewicz University. Over 3000 researchers, scholars and experts in political science and related fields from over 100 countries (including lecturers, students and doctoral students from HSE Faculty of Social Sciences) took part in the event. Plenary meetings, over 600 research panels as well as lectures by renowned experts, dedicated to topical issues of world policy and political sciences, were held during the congress.
From July 10 – 14, 2016, the Third International Sociological Association (ISA) Forum of Sociology on ‘The Futures We Want: Global Sociology and the Struggles for a Better World’ took place in Vienna. About 5,000 scholars from 126 countries took part in the event.
On July 18-22 the 13th International Conference on Concept Lattices and Their Applications was held at HSE. The conference has been organized since 2002. This year it was held in Russia for the first time. The event was organized by the International Laboratory for Intelligent Systems and Structural Analysis and the School of Data Analysis and Artificial Intelligence of HSE Faculty of Computer Science.
On July 6-8 the third international conference ‘Digital Information Processing, Data Mining and Wireless Communications’ was held at HSE MIEM. The event was dedicated to issues related to smart data processing and was supported by the Society of Digital Information and Wireless Communications (SDIWC), InfoWatch, and the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI.
On June 16-18, the international conference on anthropology ‘Bordering Religion in (Post) Cold War Worlds’ was held at HSE St. Petersburg. The event was organized by Angie Heo from the University of Chicago Divinity School (USA) and Zhanna Kormina, HSE Professor.
The IV International Summer School on Higher Education Research, which was devoted to ‘Higher Education, Society and State’, was held June 4-10 in St. Petersburg. Organized jointly with the China Institute for Educational Finance Research at Peking University, the Summer School brings together senior and junior scholars in the field of higher education research; it aims to facilitate the exchange of ideas, enhance research quality, and foster the integration of early-career researchers into the international academic community.
The 19th meeting of the OECD Early Childhood Education and Care Network was held in Luxembourg on June 8–10. Anastasia Nisskaya, research fellow of the Research of Modern Childhood group, PhD, shared her impressions and thoughts on what is common for Russian and European preschool education.
On June 17-18, Venice hosted the International Conference ‘State and Political Discourse in Russia’, organized by the Italian Foundation for Reset Dialogues on Civilizations (ResetDOC). The HSE was one of the co-organizers of the conference, together with London School of Economics and Political Science, Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies (Harvard University), and others.
In May 2016, the Vision Sciences Society 16th Annual Meeting took place in St. Pete’s Beach, USA. A delegation of HSE students and staff took part in the event.
