For psychologists interested in questions of human wellbeing, a recent symposium held by the HSE International Laboratory of Positive Psychology of Personality and Motivation provided an excellent opportunity to discuss the aspects and forms of happiness. For two days on June 1-2, half a dozen scholars took part in the symposium, entitled ‘Happiness beyond well-being’, which consisted of several roundtables on the theoretical and methodological aspects of the problem.
On May 17-18, 2018, HSE Moscow held an international workshop entitled ‘Transnational research and innovation partnerships. Designing international co-operation projects to deliver on economic competitiveness and the grand challenges’.

At the upcoming XIX April International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development, she will be delivering a presentation entitled ‘Inside Out: Prosthetic Organs as Wearable Art’.
Mirror symmetry is a relatively new field of mathematics which came into being in the 1990s. In 2017, HSE opened the International Laboratory for Mirror Symmetry and Automorphic Forms. The December conference, ‘Mirror Symmetry and Applications’, was a commemoration of its first year of operation.
On November 23-24, 2017 the international scientific conference 'S.L. Frank: Postrevolutionary Downfall of Idols', organized by the International Laboratory for the Study of Russian and European Intellectual Dialogue, was held.
On October 12-13 "'Academic Revolutions?' Understanding conceptual renewal and institutional innovation in the Modern World" conference was held in IGITI. The goal of the conference was to discuss issues in such fields as the history of natural and social sciences and humanities as well as contemporary sociology of knowledge and sociology of ideas in their application to changes in scientific outlook and academic practices since the early modern period, including the Big Science and the trends of the twenty-first century.
The Seventh International Academic Conference 'Foresight and STI Policy', traditionally organized by HSE ISSEK, took place in Moscow at the beginning of November. Mr Kato, the Director General of the National Institute of Science and Technology of Japan, was the key speaker at the event. He has talked to HSE News Service about his research interests, as well as about cooperation with HSE in the field of foresight research.
From September 14th – 15th, 2017, the first International BRICS Global Business and Innovation Conference took place at HSE in St. Petersburg. Scholars from all over the world came together to discuss the most pressing issues of global business and innovation in the context of BRICS as a factor of competition and sustainable development in era of growing uncertainty.
