From August 1-5, the Academy of Management held its 74th Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (USA). The Annual Meeting is the premier conference for more than 10,000 academics, and professionals in the scholarly management and organization field. This year it was attended by a delegation of eight representatives from the Higher School of Economics.
In July, instructors and students from the HSE’s Faculty of Social Sciences took part in the 23rd World Congress of Political Science, which was held in Montreal by the International Political Science Association. Two collective projects by the HSE were presented on special panels.
One of the largest international academic conferences on marketing, Global Marketing, recently took place in Singapore. Irina Shafranskaya, Dean of the Faculty of Management at the HSE campus in Perm, and Dmitry Leontiev, a fourth-year student, presented a joint study that investigates the specifics of online and offline consumption of films. Anthony John Heywood, Chair in History at the School of Divinity, History and Philosophy, (University of Aberdeen), recently took part in the international conference ‘Russia in the First World War’, which was organized by the HSE’s International Centre for the History and Sociology of World War II and its Consequences and took place on June 3-5, 2014. He spoke with the HSE news service about his interests in weather, Russia’s railways, the study of history in today’s society, as well as his impressions of collaborating with Russian colleagues.
The Second International Conference on Information Technology and Quantitative Management (ITQM 2014) took place on June 3-5, drawing 120 professionals from 29 countries to consider issues of model performance and decision-making algorithms when processing large amounts of data.

On June 5, research fellows at the HSE Laboratory for Comparative Social Research (LCSR) took part in the 3rd International Conference ‘Business Ethics and National Models of Behavior’, which was held at the Saint Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance.
On May 29-31, 2014 the International Center for the Study of Institutions and Development (ICSID, HSE) will hold an international conference on ‘Regional Heterogeneity and Incentives for Governance’ in Pushkin, St. Petersburg. The conference will begin with the EACES-HSE workshop ‘Political Economy of Development: A Comparative Perspective’.
