Higher School of Economics (HSE) moved from the 501-550 to the 411-420 group on the QS World University Ranking for 2016/17.

Only three of the Top-10 Russian universities, HSE, Tomsk State University, and MEPhI, managed to improve their positions compared with last year. HSE moved up from 63^rd to 62^nd place in the ranking.

HSE increased its overall score this year from 73.9 in 2015 to 74.9, allowing it to take 35^th place in the ranking.

HSE took first place among Russian universities in subject rankings for Sociology and Economics & Econometrics (101-150 globally). In Business & Management Studies and Accouting & Finance, HSE ranked first and is currently the only Russian university in the ranking, placing in the 151-200 group.

The Russian Science Citation Index project has been officially launched. The best Russian academic journals are now compiled in a separate database on the Web of Science platform. The goal of the project is to integrate Russian academic journals into international networks for scientific information exchange. 649 journals have been included in the RSCI list based on bibliometric indicators and expert assessments.

HSE is the only Russian university to win a place in the top 100 QS rankings of universities under 50.

The QS University Rankings: EECA 2015 was published on October 21, assessing universities from 30 countries in Emerging Europe and Central Asia for 150 coveted positions in the ranking. Over the past year, the Higher School of Economics has gone from 37th place to 31st, improving across all metrics.

For the first time the University is listed among the top Arts & Humanities institutions, taking 289^th place globally and 3^rd place within Russia. HSE was also ranked 2^nd place within Russia in the sectoral ranking Social Sciences & Management, rising from 232^nd place globally in 2014 to 161^st place globally this year.
