- Oxana P. Budjko has been at HSE University since 2014.
Oxana Budjko has worked in the field of international higher education in Russia for the past 29 years. Currently, she is the Head of the International Office at the Faculty of Economic Sciences at the National Research University Higher School of Economics in Moscow, Russia. She oversees the institution's global outreach efforts by expanding partnerships with universities worldwide, serving as a liaison for foreign faculty, and overseeing the institution’s student exchange, internship, and international summer programs.
She has maintained successful cooperation with over 35 partner universities around the world, thereby enhancing international faculty recruitment, attracting interns from the US, and enabling HSE students to participate in summer and semester programs globally.
In addition, she oversees graduate school placement and maintains a domestic and international network of alumni who have undergone postgraduate training abroad. Each year, together with the HSE University International Admissions office, Oxana recruits about 250 international students, primarily for degree programs, while also organizing summer and other short-term programs abroad in cooperation with partner universities.

Zaruhi Hakobyan, master’s graduate of the HSE University Faculty of Economic Sciences and research scientist at the University of Luxembourg, is involved not only in research but also in organising academic events for young scientists and students. As a foreign graduate of HSE University, Zaruhi was nominated for the HSE Alumni Awards ‘for her tireless enthusiasm in popularising economic science, teaching, and research at the international level’ and made the shortlist.
Diksha Khosla came to HSE University-Moscow from the northern Indian state of Punjab. She currently studies on the Master’s in Strategic Corporate Finance at the Faculty of Economic Sciences. Diksha spoke to the HSE News Service about the challenges and opportunities available to international students in Russia, adjusting to the Moscow vibe, and her efforts to showcase and celebrate Indian culture at HSE University.

Faculty of Economic Sciences Holds Math BootCamps for Those Starting Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees
More than 200 future bachelor’s and master’s students from around the world spent the last two weeks of summer improving their mathematical knowledge and honing their problem-solving skills. The free online classes have been held for the fourth year in a row. They allow first-year students not only to succeed in their studies, research, and project activities at HSE University’s Faculty of Economic Sciences (FES), but also to quickly integrate into the international community of students, graduates, and teachers.
Oghogho Joy Isibor came to HSE University after earning a scholarship from the Faculty of Economic Sciences for her performance in the International Economics Olympiad. She is one of several foreigners to apply via the same competition. Oghogho is currently studying on the HSE University Preparatory Year Programme before starting her Economics degree. Emmanuel Adu Sarfo, 23, from Ghana, is a second-year master's student on the HSE Economics and Economic Policy programme. The 2023 Admissions Campaign has started at HSE University. The range of available courses includes 89 bachelor’s and 182 master’s programmes across the university’s campuses in Moscow, St Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, and Perm. Among them are 13 English-taught bachelor’s programmes and 40 English-taught master’s programmes in such fields as architecture, Asian studies, IT, arts, history, mathematics, politics, psychology, economics, management, physics, chemistry, biology, law, literature and many others.

Twelve photographs of Moscow landmarks and skyline made in summer by Johnson Chow Chun Shing, an intern at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, are currently on display at Shabolvoka building. Participants of the Autumn School "Modern Trends in Decision Theory" were invited to the gala opening and were the first guests of the exhibition. The Faculty of Economic Sciences' Dean, Oleg Zamulin welcomed the guests, and, together with the International Laboratory of Decision Choice and Analysis Head Professor Fuad Aleskerov cut the ribbon to open the exhibition.
In early June, Johnson Chun Shing Chow, a native of Hong Kong, arrived in Moscow to study Russian, complete an internship and learn more about Russian culture. Prior to arriving, he envisioned the city as the heart of Russia, filled with Soviet-era memories like the Kremlin, monuments and military museums. Although he had studied Russian culture and language for some time, his initial few weeks did prove to be an adjustment.
On July 2 — 3, HSE University hosted a delegation from the National Economics University (Hanoi, Vietnam) in Moscow and St. Petersburg. HSE and NEU signed a cooperation agreement, which covers a range of areas, including the development of academic exchange programmes for students and staff, joint research projects, as well as joint cultural and recruiting events.
A group of 37 students from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology visited HSE’s Faculty of Economic Sciences in January 2018. The visit was part of a study trip to Russia organized by HKUST Global Business Program. The students visited Dobrolyubov Public Library, New Economic School, SKOLKOVO School of Management, as well as offices of Novartis Pharma, Yandex, and Moscow Stock Exchange. At HSE they met with Russian and international students who told them about the university and introduced them to Russian culture and traditions, dispelling some of the most popular myths about Russia.
Fifteen American students have come to HSE to study Russian as a foreign language as part of ‘USA in Russia’ study abroad programme developed by the University of South Alabama in partnership with HSE since 2014. Every other year, Nicholas Gossett, Assistant Professor of Russian and Applied Linguistics, brings a group of students to Moscow to study the Russian language as well as attend lectures and seminars on Russian culture, history, business, and other subjects. The goal is for students to not only improve their knowledge of the Russian language but to also make life-long connections in Russia which will help them in the academic, professional, and personal life.
