HSE Alums Take Home Prizes in Two International Data Competitions
Ekaterina Melianova and Artem Volgin, both graduates of the Master’s Programme Applied Statistics with Network Analysis, took second place in two CDP competitions: the Unlocking Climate Solutions Kaggle Competition and the COVID-19 Symptom Data Challenge. In the coronavirus-related data competition, the HSE graduates outperformed professors and PhD students of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, the University of Washington, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and other foreign universities.

Online Section on Network Analysis at the HSE 2020 April Conference
On April 20-21, the two-day online section “Network Analysis” was held as part of the XXI April International Scientific Conference on the Problems of Economic and Social Development, organized by the International laboratory of applied network research. Both days were fruitful and rich in scientific communication: the section brought together researchers from different cities of Russia, Slovenia and the USA.
‘I Have Found Every Course Interesting in its Own Right’
Miloud Lacheheb (Algeria) is a second-year student in the ‘Applied Statistics with Network Analysis’ Master’s Programme. After earning his bachelor’s in management in Algeria and a masters’ degree in Economics in Malaysia, he decided to earn a second master’s degree and study data analysis and statistics at HSE University in Moscow.

Studying Applied Statistics and Network Analysis at HSE Moscow
Felipe Vaca Ramirez and Paco Arevalo Reyes, both from Ecuador, are second-year students in HSE’s Master’s programme in ‘Applied Statistics with Network Analysis’. Having heard about Russia’s rich mathematical tradition and the high academic standing of HSE, they both decided to study in Moscow despite how far away from home it is. Felipe and Paco share a background in economics, and the HSE programme’s focus on statistics and data and network analysis was a huge draw for them. Affordable tuition fees and multicultural environment were additional bonuses.

VI International Summer School «Theory and Methods of Longitudinal Social Network Analysis» (TMSA-2016)
From August 1 to 5, ANR-Lab held the summer school "Theory and Methods of Longitudinal Social Network Analysis" in Moscow. The goal of the school was to teach students already familiar with network analysis with the features of longitudinal network analysis, which include: selection and influence models, two-mode networks, model comparison of SAOMs and ERGMs, and multi-group and meta-analysis.
V International Summer School «Theory and Methods of Exponential Random Graph Modeling» (TMSA-2016)
From July 4 to 8, ANR-Lab held the V International Summer School "Theory and Methods of Exponential Random Graph Modeling". The aim of the school was to teach participants already familiar with network analysis, some features of the ERGM method. The topics discussed contributed to a deeper understanding of the formation of the network and its structure by comparing all possible alternative networks.

Following two days of discussions, the committee members will form recommendations on changes to the primary areas of development.
HSE Day: International Students and Faculty Get into the Spirit of University Life
The Higher School of Economics is becoming more and more internationalized. It is for this reason that HSE Day, which took place at Gorky Park, reached an international level as well. Among the numerous activities at the event were ones that featured English as their main form of communication. Thanks to this, international students, foreign instructors, and all guests of the celebration who wanted to speak English were able to feel they could take full participation in the events.

Between May 26 and June 7 of this year, students voted for the best HSE teachers of the year. In voting for the best teachers, students are able to voice their opinions since the “consumer” is directly evaluating the quality of academics. In addition, the competition gives encouragement to the university’s most “popular” instructors. Valentina Kuskova has became one of the best teachers at faculty of management.
