Individual learning path

In 2019, a new educational standard was adopted for all undergraduate programs (starting with the 2020 enrollment year).

This new standard:

• enables the creation of various educational paths.
• includes 7 educational modules in the structure of each program.

Completing a single degree programme

Students who successfully complete the prescribed curriculum and pass the final state certification receive a state diploma and an HSE diploma.

Completing one or more Bachelor's programmes

Students have the option to enrol in courses offered by another degree programme alongside their own. Should you successfully complete the state final certification in both your primary educational programme and an additional one, you will be awarded a bachelor's degree in the respective fields of study, along with multiple state diplomas.

Completing a single degree programme and elements of other programmes

While being enrolled in the primary educational programme, you are permitted to select courses from other programmes. Upon passing the state final examination in the primary programme, you will be granted a state diploma, and the diploma supplement will detail the extra disciplines you have mastered, exceeding the standard course load of your degree.

Completing a self-designed educational trajectory

If you opt not to entirely fulfil the requirements of the main module of the educational programme (Major) and instead pursue a self-designed course of study, then, following the final examination, you will be awarded solely the HSE diploma.

Major

Major consists of compulsory subjects and elective subjects, from which you will form your individual curriculum.

Project seminars and research seminars are also among the variable disciplines. These seminars will allow you to discuss the results of your academic work and correctly formalize them in scientific papers.

Internship

Internship is a mandatory part of your educational programme, which forms competencies that allow you to solve practical problems of your chosen professional activity.

There are three types of internships in HSE: professional, project, and research. During your training, you will be able to participate in various projects, write a research paper with a research or application bias, or complete a professional internship at HSE or another organization.

Disciplines of the general cycle

All educational programmes have disciplines of the general cycle. These are history, economics, psychology, philosophy, sociology, law, and rhetoric – three of them you will have to study without fail, they are listed in your curriculum.

Minor

Minor will allow you to get additional competencies outside of training in the main educational direction. You choose several additional disciplines that are either related to each other or unrelated in content (the latter case is considered a free minor).

English language

All HSE graduates must be able to communicate professionally in English. If you need to improve your English, you can take an optional course in this module. The list of subjects to study will depend on the results of the admission test.

In the second and third years, students are expected to take exams in English, and in the final year they will have to submit a plan for their final qualifying work (Project Proposal) in English to the Commission.

Data Culture

Starting from your first year, you will take courses that will help you learn the basic principles of statistics, improve your Excel skills, learn a programming language, such as Python, and try your hand at working with data. HSE will test all its undergraduates for digital literacy with a special test.

State Final Examination

At the end of your training, you will have to defend your final qualification work before the state certification commission. But there may not be a state exam. Its presence is indicated in the documents of your educational programme. According to the results of the state examination, you will be awarded a bachelor's degree and a state diploma. By the way, HSE has developed its own diploma, which is issued to all graduates.
