The HSE website published an article about the Center for Language and Brain, with comments from the Centre's Director Olga Dragoy and the heads of research areas.

The Organising Committee of the Enlightener 2018 Award has published a long list of 24 books, each of which has a chance to become the best popular science book of the new season. Among other titles, the long list includes 'Atlas of Future Technologies' which presents results of the Global Technology Trends Monitoring study. This ongoing project is being implemented by the HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge (ISSEK) for more than five years. The award winners will be announced in the early October.

A team of specialists from the Center for Language and Brain (HSE) took part in the International summer school for Infant Studies On Language Development in Europe, which was held from 11 to 15 June at the University of Potsdam (Germany).

At the end of May, one of the largest South African cities Johannesburg hosted the 10^th anniversary BRICS Academic Forum 'Envisioning Inclusive Development Through a Socially Responsive Economy'. Liliana Proskuryakova, Director of the HSE ISSEK National Contact Centre for International Academic Mobility, presented the Russian initiative to establish BRICS Energy Research Platform.

On June 16 the article "Discordance of Acculturation Attitudes of the Host Population and their Dealing with Immigrants" by Anastasia Batkhina, Dmitry Grigoryev and Fons van de Vijver is available online.

The Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies (IOS) together with EACES and the Academy for Civic Education (APB) organized their 10^th Joint Summer Academy on Central and Eastern Europe. The event titled "Firm Behavior in Central and Eastern Europe: Productivity, Innovation and Trade” took place in a German town of Tutzing on June 11-13, 2018. ICSID research fellow Irina Levina presented her research project on decentralization of firms "Does firms' decentralization pay off in weak institutions setup? Decentralization and investment of Russian firms" during one of the panels.

Russia’s S&T complex is one of the largest in the world. But despite the impressive performance figures, the Russian R&D sector remains rather inertial. And according to various surveys, a career in science still doesn’t look very attractive to Russians. Tackling this problem was one of the objectives of the new 'May' Presidential decrees: when young people are keen on finding jobs in science, stay with their career choice, and make full use of their potential, a generally favourable overall atmosphere emerges in the sector. In the scope of the discussion, the experts pondered opportunities for improving science management tools to promote the inflow of new talent.

7th Annual Conference of the International Center for the Study of Institutions and Development (ICSID) «Political Economy of Development: Historical and Contemporary Factors» took place at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow on June 7-9, 2018.

Timothy Frye was awarded a Medal of Honor from HSE for his active involvement in the work of the International Center for the Study of Institutions and Development (ICSID). The award was presented personally by HSE Academic Supervisor Professor Evgeny Yasin during one of the sessions of the 7th ICSID Conference "Political Economy of Development: Historical and Contemporary Factors" on June 8.

The labour market is changing rapidly and radically. The changes are already apparent and are certain to become even more pronounced in the coming years. Accordingly, the question 'which professions are going to be in demand in 5-10 years’ time' becomes increasingly important: what qualifications should be acquired now to have labour market-relevant knowledge and skills upon graduation? The HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge (ISSEK) experts addressed these issues in the scope of the targeted project to identify professions for the future.
