The HSE Faculty of Humanities was created on December 1, 2014. It is comprised of the School of Philosophy, School of Cultural Studies, School of History, School of Philology, School of Linguistics, School of Foreign Languages, and the Poletayev Institute for Theoretical and Historical Studies in the Humanities (IGITI).
The Faculty aims to prepare specialists, teachers, and researchers who have an extensive background in the humanities and who are able to effectively put this background into practice. The Faculty's instructors include leading Russian researchers and practitioners from various cultural fields, as well as visiting international specialists. Students of the Faculty are given a high-quality, contemporary education in the humanities, as well as sound language preparation that together allow them to find the right professional opportunities upon graduation.
Students are also given the opportunity to select a more individual educational trajectory and study several humanities-related fields at the same time by taking classes offered by related schools in the Faculty. This allows students to become not only true professional specialists in their majors, but also well-rounded and educated individuals.
During their time in the Faculty, students participate alongside Faculty staff in various research projects that are part of the school's research groups, project groups, and laboratories. These include the International Centre for the History and Sociology of World War II and Its Consequences, Centre for Source Studies, Center for Language and Brain, Laboratory of Linguo-Semiotic Studies, Centre for Medieval Studies, and the Russian Language Centre. Each year, the Faculty organises academic conferences, summer schools, archaeological expeditions for historians, and retreats. In addition, grants are allocated for academic research, short- and long-term internships abroad, and international conferences. Students are also able to gain academic or practical experience at various companies and governmental institutions.
