Course Syllabus

Abstract

The seminar is designed to facilitate tne integration of master’s students into the academic environment of tne university. Students will learn about the system of compulsory courses and elective courses in the Master’s program "Applied Social Psychology’, the choice of educational trajectory and direction of researcn. The seminar will present current issues of modern research on the "Economic and Organizational Psycnology" as well as possible topics for master’s theses and contacts of scientifc supervisors. Special attention will be paid to specifying the scientific interests of students, as well as techniques for analyzing scientific literature and standards of academic work. During tne course, students will complete a number of inoivioual class activities and hometasks aimed at developing their personal learning path and making a choice of the topic of tne master s thesis more reasonable and deliberate.

Assessment Elements

  • non-blocking Homework: rationale for the plan of individual development (PID)
    Rationale-essay on the choice of elements of the PID: reflexive assessment of previous experience and the results of different sociopsychological instruments (minimum 2 instruments) (0-2 points); appeal to the content of the courses and activities HSE suggest (0-2 points); SWOT-analysis of your weak and strong sides, threats and opportunities of your development during studying in HSE (0-2 points); Specific plan of the individual development (PID) - list of the courses and other activities student is going to be involved in during the 1st year of studying (0-2 points); 0-2 additional points may be given for more deep analysis and active use of scientific literature and instruments
  • non-blocking Homework: rationale for the topic of the research
    Presentation should include: - TOPICALITY OF THE ISSUE - demonstration of necessity for psychological research – appeal to real life problem situations, statistics etc. (0-2 points) - KEY WORDS - which are relevant and how have you chosen them (0-2 points) - CONCLUSSIONS AND IDEAS OF THE CHOSEN ARTICLES - key concepts explanation (terminology) + analysis of at least 10 atricles and conclusions on how different concepts are interrelated and what is missing/intriguing/contradicting in the field (0-2points) - THREE FORMULATIONS OF TOPICS FOR TERM PAPER (0-2 points) 0-2 additional points may be given for more deep analysis and active use of scientific literature

    Report on what was done during the 1st study year: - indication of accomplishment for each of the PID elements as well as assessment of engagement level - PID elements assessment on an “environment component of the Holland’s theory” - practical significance of the PID elements results for your individual development - where and how to apply new knowledge and skills and general conclusion regarding the results of individual development during this study year - plans for the next year 0-2 additional points may be given for more deep analysis and active use of scientific literature and instruments
  • non-blocking Homework: report on the work with a term paper
    Report on what was done during the 1st study year regarding your own research: - Topic development - how final topic was edited/chosen and why (importance of the study: societal topicality, scientific problem + significance, personal relevance to your interests and PID) - Reflexive assessment of theoretical work - the scope, the approach, what should be done next year - Reflexive assessment of methodological work - the scope, the approach, what should be done next year - Ideas on practical applicability of skills and knowledge obtained during the work on your own research (including expected results) 0-2 additional points may be given for more deep analysis and active use of scientific literature and instruments

    Report on what was done during the 2nd study year: - indication of accomplishment for each of the PID elements as well as assessment of engagement level - PID elements assessment on an “environment component of the Holland’s theory” - practical significance of the PID elements results for your individual development - where and how to apply new knowledge and skills and general conclusion regarding the results of individual development during this study year - plans for further professional development 0-2 additional points may be given for more deep analysis and active use of scientific literature and instruments

    Report on what was done during the 2nd study year regarding your own research: - Theory and method section development - what was changed and why - What challenges have you faced during data collection and processing and how have you coped with them - Reflexive assessment of results obtained - their significance and applicability (societal, scientific and your personal) - Plans for your further academic development (if there are any) and reflexive assessment on how work on your master thesis contributed to your individual development. 0-2 additional points may be given for more deep analysis and active use of scientific literature and instruments
