In short

Danil Fedorovykh (Данил Фёдоровых) is a Deputy Vice Rector of HSE University. His research interests include game theory, industrial organisation, and economics of informal markets. During his work in HSE, Danil won an “HSE Best Teacher” award seven times.

Danil puts substantial efforts towards stimulating interest in economics among high schoolers and undergraduates. He is a co-founder of ILoveEconomics.ru, a website for Russian students who just started to learn economics, and is also a member of organising committees of many contests in economic problem-solving (Olympiads) and summer schools (including Summer Economic School “I Love Economics”) for high school students. In 2014, Danil received New Economic School Alumni and Friends award for the promotion of economics among young generations.

At HSE, Danil is a promoter of LaTeX – a professional desktop publishing system for scholars. The course on LaTeX that he has taught for several years helped hundreds of students, researchers, and lecturers to learn how to make publications and presentation slides in a highly professional manner. In 2014, “Introduction to LaTeX” became one of the first Russian-language courses at Coursera.org and remains the only massive open online course (MOOC) in LaTeX in the world. In 2016, Danil delivered this course in English at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.

While working in HSE, Danil has participated in academic and professional conferences, served as a guest lecturer, organised olympiads and summer schools in dozens of countries all over the world.

Since 2018, Danil is the President of the Executive Board of International Economics Olympiad (IEO).

‘It Doesn’t Test, It Teaches’: Hackathon for DANO Data Analysis Olympiad Held in Nizhny Novgorod

A hackathon was held in Nizhny Novgorod for students in grades 9–11 as part of the Data Analysis National Olympiad (DANO). More than 90 school students in grades 9–11 from Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod and the surrounding region, St Petersburg, Samara, Cheboksary, and Ufa—a total of 15 Russian regions—took part in the hackathon.

 ‘Smart and Bright: Winners of Data Analysis National Olympiad Announced

The awards ceremony for the winners of the Data Analysis National Olympiad (DANO) has taken place at the HSE Cultural Centre. This is the second time the Olympiad has been held, and was organized by HSE University together with Tinkoff. About 7,000 participants from different regions of Russia and 13 other countries took part in the event. Those coming in the top 25 of the individual ratings will be able to study at HSE University for free.

HSE University and Tinkoff Sign Strategic Partnership Agreement

HSE University and Tinkoff have signed an agreement on strategic cooperation on the development of secondary education in Russia. The cooperation will be implemented as part of the ‘Developing intellectual competitions’ project within HSE University’s strategic development programme.

The roundtable "Teaching Economics to High School Students: Curricula, Practices, Competitions" took place as part of the XXII April International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development. Russian Participants Earn Three Gold Medals in the International Economics Olympiad

For the second year in a row, a team representing Brazil won the team-level gold medal of the International Economics Olympiad. Silver was taken by Indonesia’s team, while Russia’s team took bronze. In the assessment of individual participants, Russian participants won three gold medals and two bronze medals.

Russia Hosts First International Economics Olympiad for High School Students

From September 15 – 21, Moscow will host the very first International Economics Olympiad for high school students. Students from 15 countries who have won national competitions in economics and finance will take part in the event. Russian high school students have the opportunity to compete online.

HSE Best Teacher Award: New Rules

In April 2016 HSE Academic Council approved the new regulations for awarding performance bonuses to faculty members who are selected by students and alumni as the best teachers of the year. HSE on Coursera: This is only the start

The 11 educational courses completed in the first year of HSE's cooperation with Coursera won an audienec of 300,000. The courses' lecturers talked about how they succeeded in doing this at a round table at HSE.

‘I Care’: Theory and Practice

HSE Perm has hosted the second International Conference on Applied Research. The conference drew Russian and international experts. Participants discussed theoretical models of economic processes, public-private partnership, intellectual capital, market development etc.
