Тема: Model-based approaches to analyzing lexical networks

Interest in network-based analyses of psycholinguistic data has rapidly increased in
recent years. However, this increased interest comes with an unfamiliar set of conceptual and
statistical tools that impede wider usage by researchers. Additionally, we lack effective modeling
techniques to examine the impact of word/relational features on network structure. In this talk, I
present a primer on the use of network analysis for psycholinguistic data, and present two
modeling approaches, latent space network modeling and stochastic block modeling, as
candidate inferential frameworks for analyzing lexical networks. I illustrate their usage through
three experiments examining the impact of vocabulary size on lexical associative structure; the
impact of development on lexical associative structure; and the effect of aging on lexical
structure.
