Возможности комбинированного использования методов для изучения корпоративного волонтерства

Studies of corporate volunteering are becoming more popular in Russian companies. However, many methodological issues remain to be worked out. The proposed project focuses not only on substantive results (the description of corporate volunteering as a phenomenon). We want to give a systematic description of the set of factors affecting the quality of data collection in the study of volunteering in companies. In addition, we want to implement a strategy for the complimentary usage of several methods. This will allow both to assess the adequacy of the applied methods, and validity of the results of the study. We propose to conduct a study in 3-4 companies and use several approaches: a questionnaire survey, social network analyses methodology (SNA), «case study» methodology, personal interviews, and using Internet technologies interviewing (skype interviewing). Several problems we consider particularly important. 1. It is possible to implement not reactive research methods (in particular, SNA) in the study of corporate volunteering? On what data sets it is possible to realize SNA  (corporate internal network, external social networking services)? How we can obtain access to such data and what would be the algorithm of date mining? Where are the boundaries of corporate volunteers’ networks end? Are networks limited by company’s frame, or we will be able to detect the connection "outside" volunteering networks and networks of corporate volunteers?2. Can we implement the selection model of sample in conducting a structured questionnaire survey of volunteers? What is the impact of the internal corporate rules on the conditions for research within companies, and on data quality? How to detect the effect of the "desirable response" associated with the concerns of respondents, and to assess its impact on data quality?These issues form the basis of a methodology on which to build studies of corporate volunteering, a topic becoming popular among studies of the "third sector".
