On November 20-23, the National Communication Association (NCA) organized its 100th conference in Chicago. Sergey Zverev, Oleg Kashirskikh, and Nelli Bachurina, all instructors in HSE’s School of Integrated Communications, presented papers at the conference and took part in a panel discussion as well.
During the session ‘Government, Public Policy, and Public Relations’, Alexandra Endaltseva presented the paper ‘The Present of Healthcare Public Relations in Russia: Message Framing in Russian Anti-Smoking Legislation’. Endaltseva conducted research together with Maria Mordvinova to gain a critical understanding of the key messages behind Russia's campaign against smoking. To do this, the two researchers used frame analysis.
On November 23, a panel discussion took place called ‘Institutionalization of Communication as a Field and as a Discipline in Russia: The Presence of the Past in Today’s Challenges,’ which saw active participation from HSE’s instructors. Sergey Zverev and Oleg Kashirskikh presented the paper ‘The Forms and Shapes of Today’s Communication as a Field, as a Discipline, and as a Social Institution in Russia,’ in which the researchers discussed the underdevelopment of the ‘public sphere’ as a hindrance to the development of communication as a social institution. Nelli Bachurina presented the paper ‘Differentiation of Integrated Communications: The Historical Development of the Concept and Discipline’, where she presented the results of her research on the evolution of the concept of ‘integrated communication’ and its distinctive features.
