Students’ Day 2026 in Moscow

Moscow’s celebration of Students’ Day on January 25 will span the whole week and encompass both educational events and lighthearted leisure activities. Students are invited to an entrepreneurship festival, a winter fair, biology exhibitions, and various ice rinks.

Celebrated in Russia on January 25, Students’ Day dates back to the 18th century. Before it had any connection to education, it was religious in origin and commemorated the Christian martyr St Tatiana. In 1755, on the same day, Empress Elizaveta Petrovna signed a decree that established the first university in Russia—now known as Moscow State University. Later, St Tatiana was declared the patron saint of students, and the day came to be associated not only with the first university, but with students in general.

Themed events take place across Russia annually. This year, Moscow will host over a hundred different events for students. Most of them will take place between January 20 and January 25. The events tap into various fields relevant for students: some are educational in nature or intended to help boost one’s career, while others are more entertainment-focused.
