Kicksharing—a readily available service for short-term rental of personal electric transport—appeared in Russia relatively recently, less than a decade ago. It has gained prominence thanks to its speed, cost, availability, and overall convenience, and now there is an accessible system that anyone over 18 can use.
There are two main types of electric transport available for individual use: scooters and bikes. Though neither requires a driving licence, both require certain skills. There are many rental services providers with dedicated apps, and the scooters or bikes themselves are available on the street (you can usually look for them on the specific app’s map).

Although there are some restrictions on where you can ride personal transport, the city has well-developed infrastructure that allows people to conveniently get to their destination by electric scooter or bike. Kicksharing may be used not only for leisure, but also for commuting on a routine basis, like getting to work or school.
Since scooters and bikes are officially recognised as means of transport, there are certain rules you have to follow when using them. For example, using a scooter or a bike requires official verification, and they can only be parked in designated areas. Those who violate the rules will be held legally responsible.

Most providers charge the user per minute, though some also have hourly prices. On average, a minute on a scooter costs 7–10 roubles, and an hour on a bike costs 300 roubles. Providers of scooter rental include YandexGo, Urent, lite (websites in Russian), and Whoosh (website in English). The main provider of electric bikes is Velobike. To rent one, you can either use the website (for IOS users), the app (for Android users), or the Yandex.Go app (for both IOS and Android users).
