Winter in the City: Journey to Christmas

Since Russia’s main winter holiday is the New Year and Orthodox Christmas is celebrated on January 7, the holiday season in Moscow has only just started. The city is now continuing its tradition of street events with the ‘Journey to Christmas’ festival.

Winter in the City: Journey to Christmas

The festival started on December 22 and runs until January 14 (when the ‘Old New Year’ is celebrated).

The main innovation for this year’s festival is that one of Moscow’s main central streets – Tverskaya – will be closed for traffic from December 28 until January 3. Tverskaya is now hosting many festivities and celebrations.

As usual, the festival features theatrical performances, concerts, ice ballet, light installations, ice sculptures, workshops and fireworks. These events are taking place in central Moscow, VDNH, and various parks around the city.

More information on festival locations and events is available on its official website (please note that you may have to wait for the page to load and scroll down).
