Take a Walk around Moscow’s Newest Museum of Antiques Online

The ‘Collection’ Museum opened a year ago in the centre of Moscow, on Solyanka Ulitsa. It is a private museum of antiques belonging to David Iakovashvili. Today, the museum offers online excursions around its exhibitions with English subtitles.

David Iakobashvili has been putting together his collection for over 18 years, and today it includes over 20,000 items. The oldest exhibits date back to the 16th century.

The collection is made up of a huge range of exhibits - self-playing musical instruments and mechanical rarities, including music boxes, organs, orchestrions, and pianos, gramophones and phonographs, accordions, and clocks. The Museum houses a variety of items of art and crafts, paintings and drawings, and a comprehensive collection of Russian bronzes, including small statues dating back to the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as a collection of old Russian and European silver, glass and crystal.

One particular highlight of the ‘Collection’ Museum is its repository of rare sound records. This collection contains almost every kind of audio media of the past, including musical perforated paper rolls, wax cylinders for phonographs, shellac gramophone records from the beginning of the 20th century, paper perforated discs, metal discs and contemporary vinyl records. Check out their selection of tunes for the spring mood!
