The Door to Apartment No. 10
Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of old Moscow at this exhibition of plasticine works by Alexei Mikulin at the Izmaylovo Gallery.
Open until September 24
As a child, Alexei Mikulin realised that the world of book stories was much richer than any collection of toys—so he decided to make his own reality from plasticine. In 2013, this childhood hobby came back into his life, initially for his younger son. Then he started working on a new subject: a city that (almost) doesn’t exist. Alexei created a series of models of old Moscow.
Alexei Mikulin’s works are remarkable for their intricacy and attention to details which some remember first hand and others know from photos of Soviet times. Audiences have come to love the artist for the warm, cosy, nostalgic atmosphere of his works.
For the first time, this exhibition at the Izmaylovo Gallery showcases almost all of the miniatures of old Moscow created between 2019 and 2023. One of these lends its name to the exhibition: The Door to Apartment No. 10.
Visitors to the gallery will see more than 30 plasticine models, including streets and buildings, the interiors of apartments, a market, a rural dacha, and even the entrance to Chistye Prudy metro—a familiar sight to many HSE University students.
