W. Joseph MacInnes,
Associate Professor:

"I have an interdisciplinary PhD in cognitive psychology and computer science from Dalhousie University, Halifax, on the east coast of Canada.  I have had the opportunity to work in both academic and industry research positions including St Mary’s University and the University of Toronto in Canada and the University of Aberdeen in Scotland.  My research interests include visual attention, eye movements and visual search and I approach these questions using eye tracking, psychophysical experiments and computational models of visual tasks.   I moved to Moscow In September, 2013 to begin my new position as assistant professor at the Higher School of Economics (HSE).  The Centre for Advanced Studies at HSE has been working to create international research labs in most of its faculties, and I liked the idea of being on the ground floor of this transformation in the faculty of psychology.  I have spent my first months setting up my new research lab, meeting my new Russian colleagues, maintaining my existing international collaborations and of course, working on my Russian language skills.  I am looking forward to working with new students from the new psychology graduate program and hopefully attracting a post-doc or two to the city.  I have always believed that my goals of learning, exploring and challenging myself should extend beyond the walls of academia, and living in Moscow will certainly be a new adventure."
