Olessia Koltsova, Director of the Social and Cognitive Informatics Laboratory (SCILa), took part as an invited speaker at the Regional Conference of the International Communication Association (ICA), held at Hefei University of Science and Technology in China

The 74th annual conference of the International Communication Association took place in Australia, where projects from the Social and Cognitive Informatics Lab of HSE University were presented.

The Journal of Cultural Analytics has published an article by Xenia Leontyeva, Olessia Koltsova, and Deb Verhoeven, dedicated to the relationship between women on and behind the screen in Russian cinema and the film admissions.

On April 26, specialists from the Laboratory of Social and Cognitive Informatics and Tomsk State University discussed the changes that occurred in information consumption on the Internet after the COVID-19 pandemic.

On April 23, 2024, the defense of the doctoral dissertation in philology by Olessia Koltsova, the head of the Laboratory of Social and Cognitive Informatics, took place.

On November 16^th, 2023, the Head of Social and Cognitive Informatics Laboratory, Dr Olessia Koltsova, delivered an open lecture as an Oxford Martin Visiting Fellow for the Oxford Martin Programme on Misinformation, Science & Media at Oxford University.

Thesis topic: "The role of personal strategies for maintaining privacy in social networks in the formation of individual social capital.
Scientific adviser: PhD in Sociological Sciences, head of SCILA Koltsova Elena Yurievna.

On May 29, Olessia Koltsova, Head of the Laboratory of Social and Cognitive Informatics and Ksenia Leontyeva, research intern and associate professor of the St. Petersburg State University of Film and Television, spoke at the 73rd International Communications Association (ICA) conference at the Global Film Industries session, where works on the film markets of China and Nigeria were also presented.

On December 19, a pre-defense of Sinyavskaya Jadwiga’s Ph.D. thesis on the topic “Privacy strategies in the social network Vkontakte and their role in the formation of individual social capital” took place.

SCILA researchers presented two papers at the 9th conference on Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language (AINL 2020), which took place from 7 to 9 October 2020.

Since June 22, 2020, Professor Paolo Rosso has officially taken the responsibilities of SCILA’s academic supervisor. Paolo Rosso is a full professor at the department of Information Systems and Computation of Polytechnical university of Valencia, Spain, where he also heads Natural Language Engineering research group within Pattern Recognition and Human Language Technologies Research Centre (PRHLT).

On October 23-25 the Laboratory for Internet Studies took part in Aleksanteri Conference in Helsinki.

On October 15, the head of the Internet Studies Lab Olessia Koltsova participated in the conference “Digital Media Research Methods: Theoretical and Practical Aspects”, which was held in the young and rapidly developing Nazarbayev University (Kazakhstan, Nur-Sultan).

The HSE Internet Studies Lab has got an opportunity to study political fake news for the period of three years, and the project ‘Modern Models of Poetics: a Reconstructive Approach’ received a two-year extension of funding.

LINIS team took part in VI International Conference on Comparative Media Studies in Today’s World, which held on 17-19 April at High School of Journalism and Media Communication SPbU.

Olessia Koltsova took a part in annual international conference of AOiR 2017, which took place in Tartu (Estonia) from October 18-21, 2017.

LINIS staff took a part in 22nd Annual CyberPsychology, CyberTherapy & Social Networking Conference (CyPsy22), which was held on June 26-28 in the  University of Wolverhampton (UK).

The Second International Conference “Digital Transformation & Global Society” (DTGS’17) was held between 21 and 23 June, 2017, to address various issues of information society development. The conference was co-organized by the National Research University Higher School of Economics (St. Petersburg) and the ITMO University.

Oleg Nagornyy, research intern of LINIS, took the premier place in the contest of best master thesis, which is annually arranged by VCIOM.

LINIS staff took a part in the Second International Conference “Digital transformation & Global society” (DTGS’17), which was held in Saint-Petersburg on June 21-23.

It was the motto of the 3^rd  International Conference on Internet Science-2016, which was attended by members of the LINIS. September 12-14 in Florence, scientists, practitioners and politicians from around the world came together to discuss socially important problems and their solutions.

Sergey Koltsov and Olesya Koltsova was invited as experts in the field of topic modeling to conduct workshops at International FRUCT conference ISMW-2016.
