From October 1^st to 9^th 2011, the autumn school, ‘Contemporary public policy and governance in Russia and the European Union’, took place at the HSE. The school was organized by the all-university Department of Public Policy and the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy at the University of Erfurt, Germany.

‘Russia and the Council of Europe: Topics for a Common Agenda’ is a collection of analytical papers based on the results of the 10^th session of the International Center of Russian-European Studies ‘Baltic Practice’. This was an event which took place in Oslo (Norway), organised by the University of Oslo with the support of the Wergeland Center (European Resource Center on Education for Intercultural Understanding, Human Rights and Democratic Citizenship).

Boris Saltykov, Head of the HSE Department of Science and Innovation Management, has been awarded the title of docteur honoris causa at the University of Franche-Comté in Besançon (France).

On October 5^th, high level HSE management and leading faculty members had a meeting with Panos Pardalos, Distinguished Professor of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Florida, USA, to discuss plans and future opportunities for a new Laboratory at the HSE branch in Nizhny Novgorod. The Laboratory of Algorithms and Technologies of Network Structures will be established through a grant from the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. On October 4^th the HSE administration and leading scholars hosted the delegation of the Tilburg University (Netherlands). What does the Rector Philip Eijlander think of possible forms of inter-university collaboration?

On October 4^th Peter Schwartz, a world renowned futurist and Honorary Professor of the HSE, spoke at a seminar organized by the HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge.

On October 3^rd Rohit Verma, Executive Director for the Cornell University Center for Hospitality Research (USA), gave a master class for students and lecturers of the HSE and other Moscow universities, as well as representatives of the hospitality business. He also had a meeting with the administration of the HSE Faculty of Management.

On October 3rd Jacques-Francois Thisse, Professor of Economics and Regional Science at the Université catholique de Louvain (Belgium) gave a press conference at the Higher School of Economics.

On September 29th the first lecture in the cycle of meetings of top-managers of the largest in Europe gas company E.ON Ruhrgas AG with the university students took place at the HSE. Steffen Bruendel, Head of Cultural and Academic Affairs at the E.ON Ruhrgas Corporate Office, and Hans-Peter Floren, Member of the Board of Management, E.ON Ruhrgas AG, told us about this lecture course.
