33 billion roubles

will be saved by regional governments by 2020 if public transport is converted to natural gas.

These data are presented in a study by the Institute of Public Administration and Municipal Management (IPAMM) of the Higher School of Economics.

A decree by the Russian government states that by 2020, 50% of public transport in major cities should be converted to run on natural gas. Regions are supposed to adopt programmes to expand use of natural gas as a fuel by the end of 2015. Such programmes have been approved by 29 subjects of the Russian Federation, and nine more regions are currently developing them.

More information on the results of the study can be found on the Institute’s website.
