‘I Am Very Happy to Graduate from the Best University in the Country’

International applications to HSE University are open until August 10 for graduate programmes and August 15 for undergraduate programmes. Every year, the university attracts a large number of international students to its Russian and English-taught programmes. HSE News Service spoke to a student currently enrolled at HSE University and a recent graduate about their experiences and impressions.

Having earned degrees in International Relations and Energy, Tulio Bunder from Brazil wanted to pursue his research in Eurasian Energy Geopolitics, which led him to the Master's programme in Comparative Politics of Eurasia. Though based in another BRICS country, he decided to study in Russia—and despite the challenges posed by the pandemic and his long-distance relationship with Saint Petersburg and HSE University, he seems happy with his choice.

‘Another City: Mystical Stories of Perm’ — this is the title of a work by Nikita Matkin, a first-year student in the Master's programme ‘Digital Humanities’. It received an honourable mention in the Best Russian-Language Scientific and Popular Science Works Competition for HSE University employees in the ‘History of Art’ track. ‘HSE University Is the Perfect University for International Students’

The Department of Innovation Management at HSE University offers programmes in R&D and innovation management in companies, innovation infrastructure organisations, research and educational institutions. The department’s programmes attract not only Russian students, but also international applicants. For example, in 2020, Stefan Amaximoaie from Romania and Sharif Khlal from Syria graduated from the ‘Corporate Research, Development and Innovation Management’ Master’s programme and, following their graduation, decided to stay in Russia. They told the News Service about enrolling at HSE University and studying here.

HSE University and Garage Museum Wrap Up Joint Diversity Research Lab

On June 2, the HSE International Laboratory for Social Interaction Research and the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art successfully completed their joint Diversity Research Lab. The laboratory covered a number of topics related to social diversity, including interculturalism, life in a multinational country, ageism, poverty, and ableism. During the final online meeting of the project, the participants discussed universal design—a design which would allow for the creation of environments accessible to people regardless of their disability, age, or any other factors.

HSE University will enhance its programmes in Software Engineering implemented by the Faculty of Computer Science together with the RAS Institute for System Programming (ISP RAS) and the company, 1C. The focus will be on the study of cutting-edge technology of software development as well as on expanding the number of various specializations.
