Vision
Preparing the new generations of the non-speakers of the Russian language to become expert users of it with remarkable fluency both orally and in writing, driven by their robust knowledge of the Russian culture, literature, and traditions.
Mission
This program aims to enhance students´ academic, personal and professional development through carefully selected courses that provide a deep theoretical background in the Russian language and culture and bring their speaking and writing skills in Russian to the professional level. This program also strives to create an educational environment that promotes intellectual growth and stimulates independent thinking and prepares students for successful work in various Russia related professional fields.
Description of the Program
The primary objective of the Bachelor of Arts in Russian Language (BARL) program is to impart comprehensive knowledge of the Russian language while facilitating an immersive engagement with Russian culture and literature. Students will have the opportunity to acquire insights into the historical processes of Russia, its national and confessional policies, and its contributions to global culture.
The program is structured around two principal dimensions, the foremost being linguistic preparation. It commences with foundational training in the Russian language, thereby accommodating students with no prior exposure to the language. By the end of the fourth year, participants are expected to attain proficiency in both spoken and written Russian, reaching a proficient level of the Russian language in all language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Through a curriculum that includes core courses delivered in Russian, advanced language instruction, and participation in summer and winter language immersion programs, students will cultivate their linguistic competencies to a professional standard, thereby positioning themselves for future careers in language education, teaching, and translation.
The second dimension of the program is devoted to fostering a comprehensive understanding of Russian history, literature, and culture. The “Practice” component of the curriculum seamlessly integrates students into the professional realm, facilitating interactions with peers, researchers, and industry professionals.
Upon completion of the program, graduates will possess the requisite expertise to pursue graduate studies in fields such as Linguistics, Russian Language, Language Pedagogy, Russian Literature, and Translation. Additionally, the program offers an independent certification in the Russian language, further enhancing the qualifications of its participants.
