Seminar on ' The Swedish employers and the wage-earner funds debate during the crisis of Fordism in the 1970s and 1980s '

Event ended

On October 28 a seminar of the Institute for Industrial and Market Studies will be held at HSE.

Ilja Viktorov (PhD, researcher, Department of Economic History, Stockholm University) will speak on 'The Swedish employers and the wage-earner funds debate during the crisis of Fordism in the 1970s and 1980s'.

Abstract:

This paper investigates involvement of the Swedish Employers’ Confederation (SAF) in the wage-earner funds debate during the 1970s and early 1980s. This is viewed against the background of the crisis of Swedish Fordism and its wage-bargaining system. Basing on SAF’s  contemporary archive sources the paper shows that internal contradictions between Swedish employers in question of the future of the central wage bargaining was of crucial importance for the debate. A split between leaders of Swedish engineering corporations and the rest of employers explains a paradox of large-scale ideological campaigns that SAF waged against funds after 1978
