Second Model EU conference at HSE – Saint Petersburg
In November 2020, the second Model European Union will be held at HSE – Saint Petersburg. This event is organized with the support of the minor program «European Space: Politics, Governance, Business» and the bachelor's program «Political Science and World Politics».
About Model EU
Model EU is a role-playing event that reproduces the activities of the European Union’s «legislative triangle», including the Commission, Parliament, and Council. It mimics as closely as possible the decision-making process in everyday legislative procedures. During the game, participants will be able to take on the role of a politician or a diplomat, as well as understand the intricacies of the EU’s institutional structure.
Model EU will be useful and interesting to those who are:
- interested in politics, diplomacy, and public administration, especially in the context of Europe
- actively participating in Model UN and other simulations of international organizations
Format
This year Model EU will be held online through Microsoft Teams and Zoom. The official language of the event is English.
Participation is open and free to students from any undergraduate program at all HSE campuses.
Basic knowledge in the field of European integration is welcome, but not required. Participants will take masterclasses on the decision-making procedures and activities of EU institutions.
Registration is open until November 1, 2020.
Activities
November 1: Completion of registration.
November 5: Participants receive confirmation and information about the participation format. The distribution of participants is random.
November 10-15: Workshops for participants (via Zoom and MS Teams).
November 20: First reading in Parliament
November 24: First reading in Council
November 27: Second reading in Parliament
November 28: Second reading in Council
November 29: Conciliation Committee. Third reading.
