The expert seminar “The New Model of a Flagship University: Changing the Paradigm from the Global Rankings to Solving National Problems” has taken place as part of VI International Conference on "Rethinking Students: Ideas and New Research Approaches" organized by Russian Association of Higher Education Researchers.

The workshop is dedicated to a discussion of a new Flagship University model developed by a team of international experts and described in the book entitled “The New Flagship University: Changing the Paradigm from Global Ranking to National Relevancy”, Palgrave, 2015. In the book John Douglass (University of California, Berkeley) combined the efforts of such world leading higher education researchers as Bjorn Stensaker, Tatiana Fumasoli, Manja Klemenčič, Isak Froumin and others in discussing a model that unlike with the ‘world class university’ model, is more focused on the national and regional objectives.
