On November 7, a representative office of HSE University opened in Indonesia. It is a new educational hub for students from the Asia-Pacific (APAC) who are planning to study in Russia, as well as for other Russian universities looking to establish ties with Indonesia. The representative office is based at Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) in the city of Surabaya. Its operations are supervised by the HSE University campus in St Petersburg.

‘Launching a representative office in the Asia-Pacific, at one of Indonesia’s leading universities, is an opportunity for students from APAC to discover HSE University and studies in Russia. Indonesia is the world’s fourth-most populous country and one of the leaders in terms of GDP growth. Many of HSE University’s industrial partners see Indonesia as a promising platform for entering Asian markets. The representative office will help strengthen our bilateral cooperation in education and technology exchange,’ said Anna Tyshetskaya, Director of the HSE Campus in St Petersburg.

The HSE representative office in Indonesia is a permanent establishment. It will communicate with prospective students from APAC countries who want to enrol at HSE University, and will also share information about opportunities to study and carry out research in Russia in general. The office will also extend its operations to Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam.

‘I believe that the HSE University hub in Surabaya will become an effective platform for discussing collaborations in education and technology exchange. In addition, the university’s representative office will promote dialogue on international standards and modern approaches to education quality assurance in APAC countries. HSE University is active in the region. It attracts a lot of students, researchers, and creative people. Such cooperation makes the relations between our countries special,’ emphasised Viktoria Vikman, Head of the Rossotrudnichestvo Office in Indonesia.

The aim of the representative office is to promote the integration of Russian science and education in the international environment, foster the prestige of the Russian educational system, and share HSE University’s academic experience globally. In addition, the HSE University Office in Indonesia can serve as an entry point to the country for other Russian academic institutions.

HSE University is actively working to establish connections with universities in APAC. ITS and HSE University have signed a cooperation and student exchange agreement. ITS is a key platform for essential public initiatives in Indonesia and a continuing professional development centre for the international offices of leading Indonesian universities.

In July 2022, HSE University and the University of Indonesia agreed to expand their partnership, to support Russian language learning in Indonesia, and to collaborate on joint programmes and courses.

HSE University also cooperates with Bandung Institute of Technology, the country’s leading technological higher education institution. The universities develop joint courses and mobility programmes for students and researchers. Another Indonesian partner of HSE University is the National Resilience Institute, which trains Indonesia’s public officials.

In addition, HSE University has a cooperation and student exchange agreement with Mahidol University, one of the leading national research universities in Thailand. HSE University’s partners also include Vietnam National University in Hanoi (VNU) and University of Technology Malaysia (UTM).
