The fourth lecture on the culture of India with Sofia Karanjia

On December 13, the team of the project “Dialogues about the East” held the fourth lecture of the series on the culture of India with Sofia Karanjia about Indian clothes and textiles.

On December 13, the fourth open online lecture of the series on the culture of India was held. The lecturer was Sofia Karanjia - the author of Telegram-channel “Sangrahalaya. Indian Collection”, PhD in Art History, specialist in Indian art culture, lecturer at SID and AOA Rachana Sansad (Mumbai, India), and curator of exhibitions at the State Museum of Oriental Art and CSMVS Museum (Mumbai, India).

The meeting was held in an online format, broadcasted in the Telegram channel of the Dialogues about the East project. Anyone could become a participant. Listeners were free to send their questions to the speaker before the lecture, during and at the end of the broadcast.

Sofia Karanjia told about what the Indian attire used to consist of, paid attention to the details of clothing of different peoples of India, in particular, told the listeners what were the features of the Zoroastrians' attire.

The listeners were also familiarized with the exposition of “Living Museum” of Chanakya School of Crafts (December 2023), contemporary fashion designers of India: Shruti Sancheti, Ritesh Kumar, Naushad Ali, Gaurav Khanijo. Special attention was paid to bridal saris. Using Priyanka Chopra's example, Sofia Karanjia explained that saris at weddings can and even should be constantly changed.
