Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course is dedicated to some prominent world history episodes and how they were reflected on the canvases by the artists. During the course we are going to discuss Russian and European ruling dynasties, rises and falls of great cities and empires, cataclysms and outstanding historical events that influenced the whole world. The course includes the topics in the context of which we will get acquainted with the world known artists and their works. We will examine the paintings, notice interesting details, talk about the historical era of their creation and the artist's life and creative path. For the interim control assessment you will be offered to fulfill the tests and to prepare a presentation on one of the chosen topics.
