Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course aims at presenting not only the main streams theories in the area of Diversity Management but contemporary approach on Diversity and Inclusion as well. Also, the course tries to increase students’ awareness on Diversity Management by involving critical perspectives on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion with case studies from the Global Business. The course aims at having the students familiarized with the current trends and practices on Diversity and Inclusion, which are applied by the multinational companies worldwide. Last, but not least the students will have plenty of opportunities to develop their critical view on diversity management aspects.

Course Contents

  • Theories on Diversity Management- mainstream theories on Diversity Management and contemporary theories against the mainstream such as Queer Theory and others. Linkages and historical developments and emerging patterns in the area of diversity management.
  • Introduction to Diversity Management (DM)- Brief introduction to Diversity Management across Global and Regional organizations, eliciting of why managing diversity is important nowadays extremely important for the healthy development of organizations and firm performance
  • Critical perspectives of Diversity Management- theories and practical examples on why managing diversity in organizations is a double-edge sword, qualitative studies on diversity management criticizing the mainstream theories and suggesting future possible developments.
  • Diversity Management in Top Management Teams (TMTs)- diversity in the upper echelons within the organization’s importance through diversity dimensions as sex, age, gender, nationality, international experience, marital status, etc.
  • Diversity Management in Multinational Corporations (MNCs)- Specifics and uniqueness of diversity and inclusion policies and tools across Global and Transnational companies, diversity and global strategies, diversity and national policies and recommendations for improving D&I practices.
  • Diversity Management and Company Performance- measurements of the possible impact of diversity on firm performance- Blau Index, Tobin Q, DISC tool as diversity influence on company performance, etc.

    The control work is carried out in the form of a written test, including open-ended questions, which consists of 4 questions, followed by a discussion of the results. Grades are given on a 10-point scale.

    The control work is carried out in the form of a written test. For each correct answer, a student is awarded 1 point.
  • non-blocking Conrtol work 3
    It is carried out as a test with several open questions. Each correct unswer is evaluated 1 point.
  • non-blocking Activity
    Students perform assignments in groups.
