Course Syllabus

Abstract

Project Seminar is designed to teach students to conduct its own field work in the field of political science research, using qualitative methods of gathering data. Students will learn basic principles of field work, interview and expert interview. They will use theoretical knowledge to fulfill their own research project.

  • To teach students basic theoretical principles of the qualitative empirical research
  • To get acquainted students with principles of ethnographic research
  • To get acquainted students with principles of political ethnographic research
  • To teach students basic principles of field work: where to use it and why?
  • To teach students basic principles of conducting interviews
  • To teach students basic principles of conducting expert interviews
  • To instruct and coordinate students with their individual project in the field of political research, using the principles of political ethnography and expert interviewing

  • Are able to independently prepare and conduct a qualitative research, based on expert interviews.
  • Are able to independently prepare and conduct a qualitative research, based on interviews.
  • Are able to prepare, organize and conduct their own collection of qualitative data
  • Are able to use basic databases of qualitative data, know the leading domestic and foreign research centers, know the methodology of data collection and analysis used by these centers
  • have basic knowledge about political ethnography and where to use it
  • How to conduct qualitative field work for the practical purposes in the field of political science;
  • How to use expert interviews in the practical and academic projects
  • How to write a report on expert interview
