Abstract

The discipline provides for the study of global challenges to environmental security: the consequences of climate change on the planet, which inevitably affect the life and health of people, flora and fauna, and in some regions become a tangible threat to the well-being of the population and sustainable development; an increase in the consumption of natural resources with a decrease in their reserves, which, against the background of the globalization of the economy, leads to a struggle for access to natural resources and negatively affects national security; negative consequences of environmental degradation, including desertification, drought, land and soil degradation; reduction of biological diversity, which entails irreversible consequences for ecosystems, destroying their integrity. Another aspect of consideration is regional problems, including the presence of densely populated areas characterized by a high degree of environmental pollution and degradation of natural objects; high degree of pollution and low water quality of a significant part of water bodies, degradation of ecosystems of small rivers, technogenic pollution of groundwater in areas where large industrial enterprises are located; an increase in the volume of production and consumption waste generation with a low level of their utilization, etc. Understanding the essence of the ongoing processes and the mechanism of legal regulation of relations to ensure environmental safety will significantly expand the knowledge and skills of a lawyer.
