Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course is devoted to the peculiarities of the aging in different developed and developing societies as well as the causes and consequences for this worldwide phenomenon. The aim of the course is the development of students' knowledge of the major sociological and economic scientific approaches to the analysis of development in ageing societies. The course pays special attention to the linkage between the types of society and models of its development and instruments of social policies focusing on the further development of the country. In general, student receives a wide range of knowledge about ageing and its impact on social and economic development.

  • to familiarize students with the major demographic, sociological, economic, psychological and policy issues in ageing and approaches to development in ageing societies.
  • to apply major theoretical and policy frameworks to ageing and its impact on social and economic development of different societies

  • to be able to analyze socially significant problems from the economic point of view and using the economic instruments
  • Students will understand, discuss and alanyze different aspects of psychological ageing in individual and social development of a person during the lifecourse
  • Students will learn sociological theories and will be able to apply sociological concepts to the analysis of individual ageing based on the life course approach and analysis of social context
  • Students will be able to discuss and apply modern ageing policy frameworks to various individual and community situations taking in consideration country specifics
  • Students will be able to use demographic terms to discuss and analyze ageing in different societies
