Abstract

People are able to understand shapes and colors with two eyes. We can easily guess distances to objects and understand the reflectance from the mirror. Computer Vision tries to do the same thing from a mathematical perspective. Treating images as two-dimensional arrays, Computer Vision researchers develop algorithms for image understanding. It tries to answer the questions: What is depicted in the image? What is the 3D shape of the object? How far is this object? In this course we are going to cover different topics of Computer Vision and answer these questions. To complete the course, students are supposed to know calculus, linear algebra, probability theory and the basics of deep learning.
