Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course focuses on selected topics, which are central to modern macroeconomics, like the short-run economic fluctuations, fiscal and monetary policies, macroeconomics of financial markets, open macroeconomics and long-run economic growth. The course consists of nine weeks. Six of them are devoted to the study of the main topics of macroeconomics. At the end of each week, students will be required to take a final quiz. The 7th week is devoted to the Final Quiz. The last two weeks are devoted to the completion of the final project.

  • This course is aimed at students to provide them with the knowledge of core concepts and models of macroeconomics, develop students' ability to apply macroeconomic models to the analysis of macroeconomic dynamics, real-world case studies, and provide them with the knowledge of methodological tools and their applications in macroeconomic analysis. The course covers the basic core of macroeconomic theory (the macroeconomic analysis in the short-run and middle-run periods) and several extensions including the introduction to the macroeconomics of financial markets, the modern monetary policy, and the introduction to growth theory. The course helps to apply macroeconomic analysis using both graphical and algebraic techniques to the study of contemporary and historical economic cases, to put students` research and professional interests into a broader political and macroeconomic context, to communicate their ideas using the modern internationally recognized professional language of economists.

    At the end of each week, students will be required to take a final quiz. Each of them weighs 7.5% of the final score. Quizzes contain test questions and numerical problems on the online platform.

    The last two weeks are devoted to the completion of the final project. It is dedicated to conducting a research project on real macroeconomic indicators. The goal of the project is to apply your new knowledge to the analysis of the real-world data and to practice the skills of macroeconomic analysis
