Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course gives an overview of key practical tasks faced by private equity investment professionals, and details good-practice approaches addressing these tasks. In other words, the course gives both the big picture of PE and highly specific PE job-related skills. This abbreviated version of the course focuses on the new investment side of the PE business, being more relevant to the junior investment professionals. Supervision of portfolio companies and fund setup & fund-raising are briefly overviewed. Some of the topics covered by the course teach how to identify good potential deals, analyze target companies, make investment materials and financial models, participate in the investment / risk committee discussions, and contribute to negotiations over the deal terms. These are also well relevant to M&A and corporate finance skillsets. The lecturer may potentially invite guest speakers to a very limited number of lectures. The guest speakers would be experienced investment professionals, specifically knowledgeable in the lecture’s topic. Course prerequisites Students are expected to: (1) have completed an IFRS accounting course (e.g. as taught at ICEF BSc program) (2) know basics of corporate finance and preferably valuation (3) possess strong command of English (4) be self-motivated to participate in the course actively
