Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course introduces basic principles of project management and governance. The course also overviews the most common strategies associated with ICT management and the tools used to manage these strategies. These are contrasted with organisational issues such as structure, planning and control and deployment framework. Finally, the course provides a holistic view of benefit management and information systems strategy alignment.

  • To know the peculiarities of project management methodology adaptation to the implementation of information systems
  • To study how digital transformation strategies can be implemented through information system creation projects

  • To explain the basic principles of project management from technical and organisational standpoints, including time, cost and performance issues
  • To understand how to combine flexible and traditional approaches in planning and implementing information system development projects

  • • discuss the importance of project management and its limitations;
  • • explain the differences between firm-level, business-level and industry level information systems strategy;
  • • explain the differences between personal ICTs, group ICTs and enterprise ICTs;
  • • explain the links between corporate governance and ICT governance;
  • • explain the main managerial challenges associated with the design and deployment of business-level information systems strategies;
  • • identify the different project management areas and describe the importance of their integrations;
  • • master the PERT and CPM techniques;
