Focuses and Approaches to Change Management Among Novice School Principals on the Example of the City of Kazan

Modern school education is undergoing constant changes, in which the role of the principal, his teamwork, skills and the ability to create an atmosphere of trust are important. Researches note that the transformational management style is effective in implementing changes in organization. The purpose of this study was to identify and describe managerial approaches to young Kazan principals with up to 5 years of experience. As part of the study, a survey was conducted based on the Multifunctional Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) of thirty-five young school principals, and an individual managerial profile of the propensity for a transformational or transactional management style was compiled. Eleven semi-structured interviews were also conducted as part of the study to identify the focus and managerial approaches in the educational organization. The results of the study can be used by educational authorities to provide methodological support to young school principals in the first five years of their work as directors of educational organizations. The identified management approaches can be useful for young school principals upon taking up their positions, as examples of interaction with employees of educational organizations in managing change.
