The Disposal of the Solid Waste in the Municipal Territory of Moscow

<p>This study focuses on the disposal of the Solid Waste in the Municipal Territory of Moscow.&nbsp; Thus, the author&rsquo;s main concern will be economic and environmental inefficiency of the existing system in Moscow, including burial in landfills and incineration at waste incineration plants.</p><p>The main aim of this research is to identify the optimal methods of solid waste disposal in the municipalities in Moscow region. In accordance with the purpose, the analysis will be centered on the following issues:</p><p>-&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; To analyze existing methods of solid waste disposal;</p><p>-&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; To evaluate the attractiveness of introducing a system of separate waste collection for municipalities Moscow and Moscow region;</p><p>-&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; To determine the optimal solution to the problem of solid waste disposal method in terms of economic expediency, taking into account the environmental situation.</p><p style="margin-left:39.3pt;">-&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; To check the hypotheses of the study.</p><p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Theoretical and methodological basis of the research consists of economists&rsquo; papers, researchers of urban and management issues, including both domestic and foreign studies about the problem of solid waste. The approaches of integrated solid waste management in Japan, Germany and USA are also expected to consider in this research.</p><p>This study will be using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The qualitative method consists of the questionnaire for Moscow citizens in order to understand people&#39;s attitudes to the problem of MSW and their willingness for separate waste collection. The quantitative method includes the analysis of documents and programs of the Government of Moscow and the Moscow region in terms of sharing waste management issues; analysis of the placement of existing landfills and incineration plants in Moscow region and the design of the maps; analysis of waste influence on the environment due to the chemical analysis of water.</p><p>This research consists of three parts: theoretical framework of waste management, the empirical research and the identifying the sequence of Government actions. Moreover, own proposals for the further research and enhancement of the whole system will be described in this study.</p><p>In accordance with the results of the study, it can be said that current waste management system in Moscow has not appropriate complexity and efficiency. The main reason is the lack of cooperative spatial planning in Moscow and Moscow region, effective legislation and interaction between authorities and population.</p><p>&nbsp;The results also show that placement of incineration plants and landfills do not correspond with environmental legislation and sanitary rules and norms.</p><p>Scientific and practical recommendations will be formulated using obtained data. To sum up, it can be said that results of this study can be implemented on practice, taking into account disadvantages of current waste management system. &nbsp;</p>
