Social institution of the family in russian society is experiencing pressure, being an object of (a) pressure of the labor market: changing the character of employment of masculine and feminine gender’s representatives. Gender contract, formed in Russia, with double load - both mother and worker. Extensive involvement women with education on the labor market results in increased demands on the quality of partnership; (b) Individualization process: adult family / partnership members nowadays are increasingly faced with the transfer to more individual values which implies high requirements to the quality of relationships in the couple, willingness to the termination thereof if they do not bring satisfaction. In this context, divorce, breakup, separation of family/ partnership members is a functional phenomenon, which with existing data (half of marriages are finished by divorce) becomes normalized in our culture. What appears to be functional, justified at the institutional level, obtains an extra dimension at the individual (group) level. In other words, the breakup of emotional relationships – is a psychological stress, strong emotions, although it provides an increase of valuable experience in the lifetime. Because a variety of possible scenarios indicates how broad is the social adaptation that helps individuals to normalize / compensate stress from separation. Attention to this aspect of human relations is an important component of the system of social knowledge in the sphere communication of emotions We aim to answer the question, how settled cultural patterns of relations which have a certain variability in every society, influence the process of couple’s separation. What caused the partner’s choice of a way to end the relationship? What consequences it causes?
